Caldwell's Fall Moves From the Plaza to the Vineyards, Then Goes Quiet Until the Lights Come On

Caldwell's fall runs on two calendars that take turns. Indian Creek Plaza packs nearly all of its fall programming into October. The Sunnyslope Wine Trail takes over in the last week of the month. Then, from November 1 to November 20, both calendars go almost blank until a million Christmas lights come on downtown. If you know where those handoffs fall, you can plan your next seven weeks.

Here's how the season lines up as of October 7, 2026.

The Plaza spends its fall in October

The Indian Creek Plaza calendar has five October events, and four of them fall on back-to-back weekends. The season started Saturday, October 3, with Hay Day, which the Plaza calls a new Signature Fall event for 2026. It covered the grape harvest, hops, pumpkins, antique tractors and hands-on farm activities for kids. The grape-harvest theme is a hint about where the season goes next.

This weekend is the busiest of the month, and the two calendars overlap:

When What Where Details
Fri., Oct. 9, 5–9 p.m. Dogtoberfest 2026 Indian Creek Plaza The wiener-dog races are back
Fri., Oct. 9, 6–9 p.m. Sunset Music Series Kindred Vineyards, 14253 Frost Road Live music, wine, wood-fired pizza; $10 cover, waived with a bottle purchase or wine-club membership
Sat., Oct. 10, 10 a.m.–5 p.m. Harvest Party Huston Vineyards, Chicken Dinner Road Grape picking, grape stomping, winery tour, lunch, complimentary wine glass
Sat., Oct. 10, 1–6 p.m. 9th Annual Freedom Brewfest & Car Show Indian Creek Plaza $35 ticket includes a car entry; car-only entry $20

Saturday's times leave room for both. The Harvest Party starts four hours before Brewfest, so you can stomp grapes in the morning and still make it downtown for the afternoon. The Caldwell Rotary Club, which runs Brewfest, added something new this year called the Freedom Ball Drop. Picks are $10 each or three for $20, and you don't need to be there to win. Tickets for both are sold through FreedomBrewFest.com.

After this weekend, the Plaza's events get smaller and more kid-focused. Trunk or Treat with Track Shark runs Saturday, October 17, from 5 to 7 p.m. Hide & Seek with the Caldwell Police Department is on Saturday, October 24, from 6 to 8 p.m. Players hide from officers on downtown streets. The Plaza caps it at 150 spots, says it fills up fast every year, and asks each player to register individually. Group registrations aren't accepted.

After October 24, the Plaza calendar has nothing listed until November 20.

The vineyards cover the end of October

Just as the Plaza winds down, the Sunnyslope wineries pick up. Their late-October events are smaller, mostly evenings and craft classes, and several need a ticket or a seat.

On Friday, October 23, two events overlap from 6 to 9 p.m.: another Kindred Vineyards Sunset Music Series night and Winery After Hours at Ste. Chapelle. After that, the events page at Fujishin Estate Winery in Wilder runs most of the rest of the month:

  • Sunday, October 25, noon–5 p.m.: a Wine Glass Charms Class at Fujishin, 17543 Allendale Road.
  • Friday, October 30 through Saturday, October 31: a Halloween Candy & Wine Pairing held at both Fujishin and Free Dog Wines.
  • Saturday, October 31, 2–5 p.m.: a Pumpkin Stained Glass Class with Prism + Pine. The ticket includes your finished piece and one glass of wine.

On Halloween, families with trick-or-treating plans can fit the stained-glass class in before dark. For anyone who missed the Plaza's two kid-focused Saturdays, the candy pairing is the grown-up version of the holiday.

November 1 to 20 has almost no events

Both calendars go quiet at the same time. On the Sunnyslope Wine Trail calendar, the next listing after the October events is Dunning Estates' Christmas tree lot, which opens November 28. The one November item on Fujishin's events page before Thanksgiving is a First Thursday appearance with Free Dog Wines on November 5, from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. That event is at Idaho Art Gallery in Boise, not on the trail.

So for those three weeks, regular tasting-room hours fill the gap. These are the hours several wineries posted as of early October:

Winery Address Posted hours
Williamson Orchards & Vineyards 14807 Sunnyslope Road Wed–Sun, noon–5 p.m., back to regular hours since Sept. 30
Fujishin Estate Winery 17543 Allendale Road, Wilder Daily, noon–6 p.m.
Kindred Vineyards 14253 Frost Road Fri noon–9 p.m., Sat–Sun noon–7 p.m., closed Mon–Thu
Hat Ranch Winery 15343 Plum Road Daily, noon–5 p.m.
Bitner Vineyards 16645 Plum Road Fri–Sun, noon–5 p.m., through Nov. 22; members-only winery, reservation required; a limited number of advance nonmember reservations on Fridays and Saturdays

Two details matter for planning. First, Williamson posted in September that its extended summer hours were over and its regular schedule started September 30. Second, Bitner posts its hours specifically as 2026 tasting-room hours, and that season ends November 22. That's two days after the Plaza lights come on, so Bitner's last weekend lines up with Winter Wonderland's opening weekend. Williamson and Bitner are the only two in the table whose posted hours are confirmed for fall 2026. The others don't say their hours are specific to this year, so it's a good idea to call before a Wednesday or Thursday visit.

One winery is a question mark. In March, BoiseDev reported that Gem 73 Winery planned a 15,500-square-foot winery at 21254 Chalk Hills Lane, with the tasting room targeted to open in June. As of early October, the winery's site still says the Sunnyslope tasting room is "Opening soon" and shows "COMING SUMMER 2026." Summer is over, and we haven't found an opening announcement yet.

Downtown's newest spots don't depend on the calendar

When the Plaza has nothing scheduled, the businesses around it are still open. Three of the newest opened this year on or near the same downtown blocks.

Café Rivera at 310 S. Kimball Ave. is two blocks up the same street as the Plaza at 120 S. Kimball. It soft-opened August 21 and held its grand opening and ribbon cutting September 12. The Idaho Press described a Mexican-inspired menu with horchata, flan and dulce de leche lattes, coconut matcha, and café de olla. A KIVI neighborhood feature from September 24 covered its Lotería-themed menu. A November weekday is a good time to try it without a festival crowd.

Cán Coctelería is upstairs from Amano at 802 Arthur St. BoiseDev reported its opening date as February 18. It serves cocktails and food in a space with roughly 40 seats. With that few seats, it's a better pick for a regular Friday in the quiet weeks than for a night when the Plaza is drawing crowds.

Rivera's Market at 716 Blaine St. opened earlier this year as a Mexican grocery and restaurant. It serves tacos, burritos, quesadillas and soups.

Thanksgiving week starts it all again

The quiet stretch ends the Friday before Thanksgiving. Winter Wonderland runs November 20 through 22, with festival hours from 6 to 9 p.m. The expanded Winter Market is open Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 3 to 9 p.m. The Plaza lists more than a million lights, an ice ribbon lined with trees and fire pits, Santa and Mrs. Claus, horse-drawn carriage rides, and more than 60 local artisans in the market. The 2026–27 ice-skating season also opens Friday, November 20, and skate-session tickets are already on sale. The Plaza says it will release the 2026 festival map closer to the event.

The vineyards return the weekend after:

  1. Fujishin is closed Thursday, November 26. It hosts a curated tasting with charcuterie Friday through Sunday, November 27 to 29, from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
  2. Williamson's Fall Barrel Tasting Weekend runs November 27 and 28 from noon to 5 p.m. More details are still to be announced.
  3. Dunning Estates opens its Christmas tree lot November 28 and runs it through December 19.

That makes two busy weekends in a row: the Plaza's opening weekend November 20 to 22, then the wine trail's Thanksgiving weekend November 27 to 29. The calendars switch places again, and the gap between them is gone until after the holidays.
